The Pentagon is moving to place its data onto a cloud service and Amazon wants the deal. But POTUS doesn’t like Amazon.

For all I care they can both crash and burn... If they do it to eachother... Better!

The government has it’s own rules on cloud usage. Separate servers, specific security....whole bunch of stuff. In reality it isn’t any different than it is now, just Amazon would own the server. It already has it’s own dedicated gov cloud servers and hosts a bunch of other government departments.

“The cyber is very difficult but believe me little Barron here is very good with the cyber so he is now in charge of cyber and clouds. So we will have cyber but with clouds.”

This is just stupid, and makes it easier for FSB/SVR to grab US data. With the recent side-channel data leak vulnerabilities, an attacker doesn’t even need to breach a system directly, but would only need to run an instance on the same cloud host as the target.

I am in no position to question any of the jargon you just posted, but it sounds like I would agree with you.

I can just see me ordering a dog leash from Amazon Prime and server shows up. Hmm...classified info instead of a dog leash. Nice!
I kid of course. They’d have to ship me a whole S3 bucket in order for me to get classified info.

Amazon is building dedicated regions for various US Gov customers, including (it is assumed, it’s not been publicized) one or more dedicated for classified and above workloads.
